Skin Conditions – Eczema, Acne, Urticaria, Psoriasis, Rashes
There is a concept in naturopathy that the skin can be considered as analogous to an overcoat. The skin being the outside of the coat, and the mucus lining of the digestive tract being the lining of the coat. Following this concept, symptoms that develop on the skin are generally reflected or referred from the digestive system. So, other than contact dermatitis, i.e. rashes that develop from contact with plants, sprays, soap, and perfumes, or reaction to sunlight, sticking plasters, jewellery etc., conditions such as eczema, urticaria, psoriasis, are caused by imbalances at a deeper systemic level, mostly due to an inability to break down the components of food, or intolerance and allergic reactions to certain food groups. Other aspects of skin conditions may relate to hormonal imbalances or reaction to hormonal medication. It follows therefore that in order to treat skin conditions successfully, it is necessary to establish where the underlying imbalance or disturbance lies.
